What's the story?

Cats is a musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot.
Directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Gillian Lynne, Cats first opened in the West End in 1981 and ran for twenty-one years, comprising 8,949 performances.
The show has been presented all over the world and has been translated into 19 languages.
This 1995 production at the Theatre Royal was part of the show’s second UK tour. It ran at the Theatre Royal for seven weeks, from Thursday 15 June to Saturday 5 August 1995.
Changes had to be made to the building to accommodate this show. A huge star-cloth was draped around the stalls auditorium, which was fixed from the interior of the ceiling. These fixings can still be seen in the Theatre Royal roof-space to this day.

This programme has been made available as a loan to the Theatre Royal for digitisation and uploading to the archive by the Wilson family in Nottingham. Their collection of Theatre Royal ephemera relates from 1980 to 2000. This was a period of regular theatre visits, inspired by their youngest son, described as “the driving force” for seeing so many shows at the venue.
Having heard an appeal for items relating to the Theatre Royal’s past, they contacted the venue to offer their important family collection.
