Depicting the last seven days of the life of Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ Superstar was written in 1970 by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and conceived as a rock concept album.
It received its Broadway debut in 1971 and opened in London the following year, where it received more positive reviews than from the American critics. The show ran in London for eight years.
This production was directed by Bill Kenwright and Bob Tomson and starred Richard Barnes, Ray Shell, Joshua Bancel, Halcro Johnston, Chris Van Cleave, Ian Good and Claire Woyka.
