Date

Description
Victorian programme for Babes in the Wood, the Theatre Royal Nottingham pantomime for 1887
What's the story?
This pantomime was written by local man George Dance (1857 - 1932).
He also wrote the Theatre Royal pantomimes Aladdin in 1886 and Sinbad the Sailor in 1889.
Historical information is packed onto the pages of this programme: from a wide range of local advertising; to the formal naming of the cast; the description of each scene and who painted it; and how it all ends in a Harlequinade.
The Managing Director of the Theatre at the time was Mr Thos. W. Charles and the following quote is taken from the front cover:
"Mr CHARLES has gone to the most lavish outlay in this present Year's Annual, exceeding in Costliness and Extravagance of Mounting any of his Gorgeous Spectacles of former years."
