What's the story?
Sinbad the Sailor was written by George Dance, born in Nottingham in 1857. Dance also wrote the previous Theatre Royal pantomimes, Aladdin, in 1886 and Babes in the Wood in 1887.
W. Macqueen-Pope, who worked as Dance's Private Secretary between 1908 - 1914, went on to work in many London Theatres, as well as becoming an English Theatre Historian and a prolific writer of books about the theatre. In his 1953 book 'Shirtfronts and Sables - A Story of the Days when Money could be Spent', he dedicates two chapters to George Dance and his memories of working for him.
