Description
Leaflet for Rose Marie, a musical play, from February 1939.
What's the story?
Billed as a 'Romance of the Canadian Rockies', Rose Marie was a massively popular musical that had huge runs on Broadway and in the West End, when it opened in the 1920s.
The best-known song from the musical is 'Indian Love Call' , which became the signature song for Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, when they sang it in the 1936 film version of Rose Marie.
This touring production starred Derk Oldham, Billy Merson and Tessa Deane.
Rose Marie, like The Desert Song and The Student Prince, is an example of hugely popular musical that has now gone out of fashion and is rarely revived.
