Description
Programme for 1942 production of Rose Marie, "a musical romance of the Canadian Rockies"
What's the story?
Rose Marie, with a book and lyrics by Otto Harbach and Oscar Hammerstein and music by Rudolf Friml and Herbert Stothart, was a massively popular musical that had huge runs on Broadway and in the West End, when it opened in the 1920s.
The best-known song from the musical is 'Indian Love Call', which became the signature song for Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, when they sang it in the 1936 film version of Rose Marie.
This programme was loaned to the Theatre Royal by Lesley Brown from a collection of theatre memorabilia owned by her late father-in-law William Gordon Brown, a keen performer and member of Nottingham Operatic Society.
