This 1981 production of Aladdin starred Barbara Windsor, Keith Harris & Orville, Billy Dainty, Gordon & Bunny Jay, Peter Bland, Jane Wellman, Patrick Wilkes, Paul Tomany, Carole Anne Darrock and Giancarla Pfleger. Emerson & Jayne presented their speciality act, ‘The Flying Carpet’.
This Pantomime broke all previous Theatre Royal records, taking £2.5 million at the box office. Equivalent to over £7 million in 2018. By opening night it had taken £370,000.
It was so popular that the finishing date kept being extended until it finally ended on 10 April having run into Easter and entering the Guinness Book Of Records that year.
