What's the story?
This production of Aladdin starred Barbara Windsor, Jimmy Cricket, Billy Dainty and Jack Haig.
During the run of the production Billy Dainty became ill and was forced to leave the show. He was replaced by Roy Barraclough.
Roy remembers: “I played Widow Twankey to John Inman’s Aladdin at Stockport and on the last weekend received a phone call from the Theatre Royal Nottingham where Barbara Windsor was playing Aladdin. Billy Dainty was playing Twankey there, but he wasn’t well and they asked if I’d take over. So, I finished in Stockport on the Saturday and went on in Nottingham on the Monday. It might have been the same role, but it was a completely different script. Anyway, we did it and I finished the run there.”
Billy Dainty sadly died aged 59 on 19 November 1986.
