Unused promotional postcard for operetta Veronique starring soprano Ruth Vincent.
What's the story?
Ruth Vincent was an acclaimed opera singer and performer, who began her career aged 17 with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company.
She graduated from Gilbert and Sullivan to performing grand opera concerts in London and New York, as well as Edwardian musicals and operettas, such as Veronique.
Set in Paris in 1840, Veronique is a comic opera with music by Andre Messager. It was first performed in France in 1898 and was an instant success, with productions soon taking place across Europe, America and Australia
Vincent played the lead romantic role of Helene in the first London production in 1904, which transferred to New York the following year. It was a role she was soon to become closely associated with, as evidenced by this regional tour five years after her London debut.
