Title
Chu Chin Chow - Programme, 1945
Date
26 March 1945
Description
Programme for Nottingham Operatic Society production of the musical Chu Chin Chow.
What's the story?
Written by Oscar Ashe and Frederick Norton, Chu Chin Chow is based on the story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and is described in the programme for this Nottingham Operatic Society production as ‘the musical tale from the East’.
Chu Chin Chow was first produced in London in 1916, where it ran for five years. As evidenced by this production, it was to prove to be good escapist material during both world wars.
This programme was loaned to the Theatre Royal by Lesley Brown from a collection of theatre memorabilia owned by her late father-in-law William Gordon Brown, a keen performer and member of Nottingham Operatic Society.
