Programme for a range of performances during a two-week run by The Royal Carl Rosa Opera Company.
What's the story?
Carl Rosa Opera was established in 1873. It’s founder German born Carl August Nicolas Rosa, a violinist, formed the company inspired by his wife, Euphrosyne Parepa, and her operatic success.
The company then toured continuously until 1960. It was re-launched in 1998 and is still committed to producing quality light opera today.
This two week run at the Theatre Royal in 1943 included ten productions: Madam Butterfly, Faust, La Boheme, Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacelli, The Barber of Seville, The Merry Wives of Windsor, La Traviata, The Marriage of Figaro and Il Trovatore.
This programme was loaned to the Theatre Royal by Lesley Brown from a collection of theatre memorabilia owned by her late father-in-law William Gordon Brown, a keen performer and member of Nottingham Operatic Society.
