What's the story?
Night Must Fall is a 1935 drama by Welsh writer, director and actor Emlyn Williams (1905 – 1987).
Williams himself played the part of Dan, a psychopathic murderer, when the play was staged at the Theatre Royal in 1943.
The play is often highlighted as being one of the first for exploring a killer’s psychological state.
In this 1968 production actor and pop star Adam Faith played Dan. This was one his first major acting roles, following his teen idol career..
Sybil Thorndike was a celebrated classical actor with a long career in the theatre. Her most famous role was the title part in Bernard Shaw’s Saint Joan, which she played at the Theatre Royal in 1931.
Other actors in this production are William Lucas, Lewis Casson, Polly Adams, Helen Cotterill, Fraser Kerr, Margot Lister and Gretchen Franklin.
