What's the story?
In 2018 Nottingham Operatic Society celebrated its 125th anniversary, having been formed on 13 April 1893 at Nottingham Mechanics Institute.
The society performed its first show 'Les Cloches de Cornerville' by Robert Planguette on 18 January 1894 at the Mechanics Hall.
In 1925 the Society moved its shows to the Theatre Royal with a production of The Yeoman of the Guard by Gilbert and Sullivan and has been a constant presence at the venue ever since.
Half a Sixpence is a musical comedy based on the 1905 novel Kipps by H. G. Wells, with music and lyrics by David Heneker and book by Beverley Cross.
It was first produced at the Cambridge Theatre in London in March 1963 with singer and performer Tommy Steele, for whom the show was written for as a starring vehicle.
