Description
Full programme for Salome by Oscar Wilde, starring and directed by Steven Berkoff.
What's the story?
Steven Berkoff is an actor, director and writer. His stage work includes adaptations of Metamorphosis and The Trial, plus Greek, Decadence and Sink the Belgrano!
His work can be provocative and boundary-pushing and this production of Salome by Oscar Wilde is no exception.
Described by critic Michael Billington as “a stylised, slow-motion dream”, the actors in the 1920s set production move slowly, savouring each word, on a sparse stage. The effect according to many reviewers and online comments was highly hypnotic.
The show premiered at the Gate Theatre in Dublin, later being revived at the National Theatre and then toured nationally and internationally.
Other cast members include Mark Elstob, Michael Jenn, Angus Wright, Peter Brennan, Zigi Ellison, Carmen Du Sautoy and Simon Elliott.
