In 1960 The Old Vic was a very highly esteemed repertory company in London, with high-profile actors and performances. It was to form the core of the National Theatre, which Laurence Olivier created at the Old Vic in 1963, before moving to its home on the South Bank in 1976.

During their week at the Theatre Royal the company performed Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Saint Joan by Bernard Shaw and the Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.
The Old Vic Company included Barbara Jefford, Paul Rogers, Walter Hudd, Valerie Taylor, George Baker and William Russell, with productions directed by Michael Benthall and Douglas Seale.
