What's the story?

In 1960 The Old Vic was a very highly esteemed repertory company in London, with high-profile actors and performances. It was to form the core of the National Theatre, which Laurence Olivier created at the Old Vic in 1963, before moving to its home on the South Bank in 1976.
As it states on the programme this 1960 tour spanned twelve weeks and marked the first steps for the Old Vic to tour its shows to the regions on an annual basis.
During their week at the Theatre Royal, the company performed Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Saint Joan by Bernard Shaw and the Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.
This production of Macbeth opened this Theatre Royal week of three different Old Vic shows, playing four performances on Monday 28 at 7.15pm, Tuesday 29 at 7.15pm and Wednesday 30 November at 2.30pm and 7.15pm.
Saint Joan by Bernard Shaw was performed on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 December. Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest finished the week with two shows on Saturday 3 December.
Actors for this Old Vic Company production of Macbeth included Barbara Jefford, Paul Rogers, Walter Hudd, Joss Ackland, Frank Middlemass, George Baker and William Russell. Michael Benthall directed the production.
