Ride A Cock Horse - Programme & Show Ticket, 1965
Date
25 May 1965
Description
Full programme for two week run of Ride A Cock Horse by David Mercer, starring Peter O'Toole.
What's the story?
Ride a Cock Horse was a new play by David Mercer about the problems faced by a writer, played by Peter O’Toole, from a northern working-class background in adjusting to life, love and success in London.
Following this regional tour, the play was staged at the Piccadilly Theatre in London from 24 June 1965.
In 1965 O’Toole was a big star name for the Theatre Royal, having starred in films such as Lawrence of Arabia and Beckett and major theatre work for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
His presence made Ride A Cock Horse a major event for the venue in its 100th anniversary year, along with the production of My Fair Lady that would take place two months later.
Also appearing in the play were Wendy Craig, Barbara Jefford, Judy Wilson and Sian Phillips, who was married to O’Toole at the time, but whose biography does not appear in the programme.
Contained in this programme is also a stalls ticket stub, priced 8/- for the opening night of this show.
