Title
The Mousetrap programme - 1952
Date
9 October 1952
Description
This programme is of the very first presentation of Agatha Christie's 'The Mousetrap' - Nottingham's Theatre Royal was chosen by Agatha Christie for the world premiere of what was then her latest play.
What's the story?
This programme was donated by Mrs Judy Briggs who was in the Nottingham audience of The Mousetrap on 9 October 1952 - the week of the world premiere of Agatha Christie's latest play. Nottingham's Theatre Royal was regarded by Agatha Christie as her 'lucky' theatre and she often tested the market for her plays by presenting them for the first time in the theatre. 'The Mousetrap' is of particular significance; after several people, including Christie herself, had given the play an outside chance of enjoying a run of one or two years at most, once it was performed in London's West End, it actually went on to become the world's longest running play. It's still playing in the West End and the run was only broken for a short while during the Covid lockdown periods.
