Title
The Doctor's Dilemma - Programme, 1941
Date
15 September 1941
Description
Programme for The Doctor's Dilemma by Bernard Shaw, starring Vivien Leigh.
What's the story?
Gone With the Wind had been released in 1939 and made a huge global star out of Vivien Leigh. Just two years later she was at the Theatre Royal in this touring production of The Doctor's Dilemma.
This production also starred Cyril Cusack and was directed by Irene Hentschel.
Vivien Leigh's dresses for the show were specially designed by Sophia Harris.
The Theatre Royal was open throughout World War Two. It was very much 'business as normal'. This production indicates that with a full performance week, including three matinees.
The only concession to the war appears to be the 6.30pm start for the evening show, presumably to enable audiences to get home earlier.
