What's the story?
When We Are Married is a Yorkshire comedy by JB Priestley and was first performed in London in 1938.
It tells of three couples, all married on the same day, now gathered together to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary. They soon discover that they are not legally married and begin to re-evaluate their lives and marriages.
This 1979 National Theatre production was a significant revival of the play, marking Priestley’s 85th birthday. He died five years later in 1984.
This production included Robin Bailey, Barbara Ferris, Pat Heywood, Harold Innocent, Peter Jeffrey, Phyllida Law, John Quayle, Joan Sanderson, Leslie Sands and Liz Smith.
