Description

Poster for 1997 revival of jukebox musical show Elvis the Musical, produced by Bill Kenwright.

What's the story?

Elvis the Musical was first produced in London at the Astoria Theatre in November 1977. Just two months after Elvis Presley had died at the early age of just 42.
Filled with many of his greatest hits, the show features four performers playing Elvis in his various incarnations – early years; in the army; movie-star years and Las Vegas Elvis.
The production was originally conceived and directed by writer and director Ray Cooney and Jack Good, who had worked with many rock ‘n’ roll singers and had produced pop TV shows like Oh Boy and Six-Five Special during the 1960s.
This 1997 revival of the show was produced by Bill Kenwright and was clearly timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Elvis’ death.
