Peter Pan - Programme, 1935
Date

Description
Full programme for Jean Forbes-Robertson as Peter Pan or The Boy Who Wouldn't Gro Up by J.M Barrie
What's the story?
Jean Forbes-Robertson was an English actor, often cast in boys' roles, such as Jim Hawkins in a stage version of Treasure Island, Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream and the title role in Peter Pan.
She first played the role in 1927, aged 22 and would continue to play it until 1939, both in London and on tour.
The photograph of Forbes-Robertson as Pan on page 3 of the programme does certainly present a wonderful ethereal, androgynous figure.
She also joins other actors such as Nina Boucicault, Cissie Loftus and Pauline Chase, who helped to define the role of Peter Pan from its very first performances in 1904.
Amongst a large cast for this 1935 touring production is 15-year-old Dinah Sheridan, who played Wendy Darling.
A professional actor since she was 11, she perhaps is most famous for playing the mother in the celebrated 1970 film of The Railway Children.
