Title
Theatre Royal & Nottingham Trams - Postcard, 2007
Date
2007
Description
Postcard from Hedgerow Publishing Ltd depicting the Theatre Royal and two trams from Nottingham Express Transit
What's the story?
After many years of planning and work, in March 2004 the £200 million Nottingham Express Transit tram system was finally up and running. Running from Nottingham to Hucknall, the new tram ran directly parallel to the side of the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall along Goldsmith Street. There was now even a Royal Centre tram stop just a few metres from Stage Door.
This postcard shows two trams going to and from Nottingham Rail Station.
As the card states all Nottingham trams are named after Nottingham icons and here we have Brian Clough, former manager of Nottingham Forest and William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army.
In the background you can see banners across the Theatre Royal portico advertising a forthcoming production of 42nd Street.
Not long after this it was decided that the venue would no longer promote shows in this way, both to protect the columns and to show off the portico columns in all their glory.
