Programme for production of rock musical Hair containing provocative mini-poster artwork, indicative of the show's depiction of hippie counter-culture and sexual revolution.
What's the story?
Hair was a genuinely ground breaking new musical. It opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London on 27 September 1968, led by the same creative team as the Broadway production. The opening night was delayed until the abolition of theatre censorship in England under the Theatres Act 1968 so that the show could include nudity and profanity. It ran in London for 1, 997 performances.
A revival of the show was due to appear at the Theatre Royal in 2016 but was cancelled at the last minute.
Many of the performers from the 1970 touring production that played at the Theatre Royal, such as Joan Armatrading, Floella Benjamin, Paul Nicholas, Paul Barber and Richard O'Brien, went on to have very successful careers.
