Date
4 October 1937
Description
Full programme for 1937 production of musical comedy, Me and My Girl, starring Lupino Lane.
What's the story?
Me and My Girl is a celebrated musical comedy by Noel Gay, made famous for its songs The Lambeth Walk and The Sun Has Got His Hat On.
This programme is notable as it marks one of the first outings for the show, prior to its West End opening at the Victoria Palace on 16 December 1937.
Although a big hit at the end of the 1930s, it only had a few minor revivals in the following years.
In the 1980s, it returned to the West End with a new musical book by Stephen Fry and starred Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson. It was huge success. It ran for eight years and received two Olivier awards. It transferred to Broadway and won three Tonys.
It is gratifying to know that this highly successful and long-running show received its very earliest performances at the Theatre Royal.
