Description
Cover and selected pages from the Book of Words for Robinson Crusoe, the Theatre Royal pantomime for 1881.
What's the story?
Loosely based on Daniel Defoe’s 1719 novel, this pantomime production was written by F.R. Goodyer and produced by Thos. W. Charles.
Describing the opening performance, the Nottingham Evening Post review stated on 27 December 1881:
“Last night there was the usual crush for admittance. Not a seat in the house was unoccupied, and the artists very quickly enlisted the sympathies of their vast audience … The pantomime on the whole promises well, and it is pretty safe to predict that several of the artists will in the course of a few days greatly advance in popular favour.”
