Description
Full programme for Robinson Crusoe, the Theatre Royal Pantomime for 1947.
What's the story?
Two notable cast members of this production of Robinson Crusoe are Dick Emery and Nat Jackley.
This 1947 production marks one of the earliest post-war professional appearances for Dick Emery (1915 – 1983), playing the dame role of Mrs Crusoe. He was to become an extremely popular TV entertainer, with his own BBC running from 1963 to 1981.
Nat Jackley (1909 – 1988) was one of the leading comic performers at the time, working from the 1920s as a double act with his sister Joy and later becoming a prolific Panto performer.
Tom Arnold was the producer of this production and his name can be found on many Theatre Royal Pantos at this time. He also specialised in spectacular ice shows and as can be seen from this programme, at the same time he was also producing Ice Follies, a thrilling and amazing spectacle, next door at the Empire Theatre.
