Title
The Light of Heart - Programme, 1942
Date
8 June 1942
Description
Full programme for The Court Players production of The Light of Heart by Emlyn Williams.
What's the story?
The Light of Heart by Emlyn Williams was first produced in London in 1940. With its story of a once great Shakespearean actor now living in a dingy boarding house and reference to many of Williams’ Welsh roots, many believe that this is a strong autobiographical play.
This programme was sent to the Theatre Royal Nottingham by Mrs E Bullivant from Ormskirk in Lancashire. In her covering letter she states:
“My sister and I have recently been going through the papers of our late parents, Walter and Joy Bigglestone. They first met in Grantham in the early 1940s, when our father was stationed there for his RAF training, and our mother was living there with her parents and younger brother. They were keen music lovers, willing to travel to performances, including some at the Nottingham Theatre Royal.”
