Full programme for Forum Theatre Billingham production of To Dorothy A Son by Roger MacDougall, directed by and starring Leslie Phillips.
What's the story?
To Dorothy A Son is a 1951 play by Roger MacDougall, who is perhaps more famous for his screenplays for the classic 1950s comedies The Man in the White Suit and The Mouse That Roared.
As it states in the programme, MacDougall had multiple sclerosis, due to which he developed a diet that apparently aided his recovery. He then published his own results in a pamphlet in the hope of helping other sufferers.
This revival of the play was clearly a star vehicle for Leslie Phillips, the popular comedic actor, who came to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s, often playing the suave English charmer, in films such as the Carry On and Doctor series.
Alongside Phillips were Vicki Luke, Fran O’Linn, Gareth Gwyn-Jones, David Browning and Candyce Brandl.
