What's the story?

No No Nanette is a musical comedy with lyrics by Irving Caesar and Otto Harbach, music by Vincent Youmans, and a book by Otto Harbach and Frank Mandel.
During its 1924 pre-Broadway tour, No, No, Nanette became a hit in Chicago, and the production stayed there for over a year. In 1925, the show opened both on Broadway and in the West End.
In 1971 the show was revived, with a new book by Burt Shevelove. This 1984 production is based on Shevelove’s revival.
As you can see there is a discrepancy between the leaflet and the programme, with the former advertising Noele Gordon as the star of the show, which the programme lists Moira Lister.
Noele Gordon was a popular actress, famous for playing Meg Mortimer in the ITV sitcom Crossroads from 1964 to 1981. After she left the programme she returned to the theatre with musicals such as Gypsy at the Haymarket Theatre Leicester, Call me Madam at the Victoria Palace Theatre and The Boyfriend at the Plymouth Theatre Royal, who also produced this production of No No Nanette.
The Boyfriend was Gordon’s last stage appearance, as she became ill during the run and had to be replaced.
She died in April 1985 from stomach cancer and so therefore, although initially billed, she was too ill to tour No No Nanette during autumn 1984 and so was replaced by Moira Lister.
Also appearing in this production were Josephine Blake, Jimmy Thompson, Carmel Cryan, Michael Remick and Jack Tripp.
Tripp was regarded as one of the best Panto dames in the country and according to his biography in the programme this was his first venture into musical theatre.
