Description
Double-sided leaflet for Cards on the Table by Agatha Christie.
What's the story?
Agatha Christie’s Cards on the Table was first published in 1936. Based around a dinner party and a murderous game of bridge, the book featured Christie’s classic detective Hercule Poirot and was the debut for the character of detective writer Ariadne Oliver, Christie’s literary alter ego and parody of herself, through whom Christie often voiced her opinions of the industry.
The book was adapted into a stage play by Leslie Darbon for this 1981 production, although without Poirot. This followed Christie's trend of adapting Poirot novels as plays, but without Poirot as a detective, as she did not feel that any actor could portray him successfully.
This Theatre Royal Nottingham week of performances were immediately prior to the play opening at London's Vaudeville Theatre on 9 December 1981.
In the lead role of Sergeant Battle was Gordon Jackson, along with Derek Waring, Margaret Courtney, Belinda Carroll, Pauline Jameson, Mary Tamm, Gary Raymond and Patricia Driscoll.
