Title
Poirot & Me - Newspaper Article & Review, 2013
Date
8 & 9 November 2013
Description
Special event to launch Poirot and Me, a book by actor David Suchet detailing his time playing Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot on ITV.
What's the story?
David Suchet is one of the UK’s finest stage and TV actors; however, it is his TV role as Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot that he is most associated.
He was asked to play the role in 1988 and eventually played the Belgian detective in every one of the seventy Poirot stories that Christie wrote, culminating with Curtain in 2013.
In 2013, Headline published Poirot and Me, Suchet’s account of playing the role, written in partnership with his friend Geoffrey Wansell.
For the book’s publication, Suchet and Wansell did a short tour, starting at the Theatre Royal Nottingham.
The venue was chosen due to its strong association with Agatha Christie. In particular, in October 1952 The Mousetrap has its world premiere at the Theatre Royal and it is still playing in London in 2019. Christie described the Theatre Royal as “her lucky theatre”.
Taking place during the afternoon on 7 November 2013, on the set of Nottingham Operatic Society’s production of Oklahoma!, the Poirot and Me event was a complete sell-out, with long queues afterwards for books to be signed by David Suchet.
Such an audience response and the warmth shown in the two Nottingham Post articles demonstrate the popularity and affection for both Suchet and Poirot.
