Title
Doctor Who The Ultimate Adventure - Flyer, 1989
Date
12 June 1989
Description
Based on the BBC series Flyer for Doctor Who The Ultimate Adventure from June 1989, starring Colin Baker and featuring the Daleks.
What's the story?
As well as being an incredibly popular TV series, Doctor Who has also been adapted for the stage.
Doctor Who: The Ultimate Adventure was a stage play that toured from 23 March to 19 August 1989.
Jon Pertwee reprised his role as the Third Doctor for the initial run. The rest of the run saw Colin Baker take over as the Sixth Doctor, which included the visit to the Theatre Royal in June 1989.
The show was written by Terrance Dicks, who was a writer as well for the TV series and so this show did have full BBC approval.
At that time Sylvester McCoy was the seventh incarnation of the Doctor on TV, however the series was axed later in the year. It didn't return to our screens as a full series until 2005.
Michael Grayson, Managing Director for the Theatre Royal at that time remembers the production, stating that it didn't have a particularly large audience. Probably indicative of the general waning support for Doctor Who at that time.
