What's the story?
An excellent example of early 20th century theatre marketing with a series of postcards depicting characters from Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.
Mr. Tree’s Company refers to the legendary actors and theatre manager Herbert Beerbohm Tree (December 1852 to July 2017), who was famed for his lavish productions and went on to found the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1904.
It can also be seen that this performance was performed in ‘His Majesty’s Theatre’ in London, which Tree became manager of in 1899 following extensive rebuilding.
