Description
Selected pages from programme for National Theatre production of Noises Off by Michael Frayn.
What's the story?
Noises Off is an immensely successful comedy by Michael Frayn that first premiered in 1982.
The show became a huge hit both in the West End and on Broadway. The New York Times described it as "the most dexterously realized comedy ever about putting on a comedy. A spectacularly funny, peerless backstage farce. This dizzy, well-known romp is festival of delirium."
This intricate comedy consists of three acts and is a play within a play, as we see the technical rehearsal, a matinee show and a performance at the end of the run of a sex farce called Nothing On.
As you can see the actual programme also contains a mock programme for Nothing On.
This 2001 National Theatre production of Noises Off was major revival of the play and starred Patricia Hodge, Peter Egan, Aden Gillett, Natalie Walter, Selina Griffiths, Susie Blake, Jeff Rawle, Paul Thornley and Christopher Benjamin.
It was directed by Jeremy Sams.
