This production of Dick Whittington starred Paula Grey in the title role and Charles Harrison in the dame role as Martha the Cook.
Vic Korris played King Rat and returned to the Theatre Royal six years later in 1951, playing Fauntleroy, one of the Miller’s sons in Puss in Boots.
This Panto also featured spectacular flying dance sequences from performers in Kirby’s Flying Ballet.
One of these flying dancers was local 16-year-old Gillian Haywood-Widdowson. There are oral interviews with Gillian and rare images and cuttings of her time in Panto from her own private collection elsewhere on this site.
