What's the story?
Commissioned by Salford City Council to celebrate the life and work of Salford-born artist L.S. Lowry, A Simple Man premiered in 1987 and was devised, directed and choreographed by Gillian Lynne, with music by Carl Davis.
Playing the role of Lowry was Christopher Gable, who returned to the dance stage after 20 years away. This highly successful show also marked the start of his tenure as Artistic Director for Northern Ballet Theatre until 1998.
A Simple Man was performed in repertoire at the Theatre Royal with Danse Classique, Grand Pas de Deux from The Amazing Adventures of Don Quixote and Memoire Imaginaire.
