Title
The Pied Piper - Review, 1968
Date
27 December 1968
Description
Nottingham Evening Post review, dated 27 December 1968, of The Pied Piper, the Theatre Royal Pantomime for that year, starring Freddie Davies and Mark Wynter.
What's the story?
As in a similar review for Merry King Cole the following year, the Pantomime is much longer than it is now – running for three hours!
The reviewer Emrys Bryson is very positive about the show, but interesting that he comments that the show doesn’t follow all the Pantomime rules – no Dame, no Principal Boy – but is “a beautifully dressed charming story”
This digital archive contains an interview with Susan Spencer, one of the Tozer Babes in the cast. It is good to note that she and her fellow young dancers are noted as “spiky and well-trained” and “will make every child in the audience go into showbusiness”.
Especially if they knew of the fun and games Susan was up to behind-the-scenes with various joke-shop pranks.
