What's the story?
Born In The Gardens is a 1979 comedy play by Peter Nichols. Set in Bristol, the play centres on an elderly mother and son living in a crumbling Victorian manor house. The title comes from a sign in the Polar Bear enclosure in Bristol Zoological gardens and referred to a polar bear called Misha.
This 1990 touring production starred Colin Baker, Brian Cant, Sandra Dickinson and Margery Mason.
This leaflet has been made available as a loan to the Theatre Royal for digitisation and uploading to the archive by the Wilson family in Nottingham. Their collection of Theatre Royal ephemera relates from 1980 to 2000. This was a period of regular theatre visits, inspired by their youngest son, described as “the driving force” for seeing so many shows at the venue.
Having heard an appeal for items relating to the Theatre Royal’s past, they contacted the venue to offer their important family collection.
