HRH The Earl of Wessex Royal Visit - Photographs, 2015
Date
25 September 2015
Description
A selection of photographs of the royal visit by HRH The Earl of Wessex Prince Edward to the Theatre Royal on 25 September 2015 on the occasion of its 150th anniversary.
What's the story?
In 2015 the Theatre Royal Nottingham celebrated its 150th anniversary, having first opened its doors in 1865.
There were numerous events to mark this occasion, including a revival of The School for Scandal, the very first production on the Theatre Royal stage; performances of Hood, a new commission by the Theatre Royal looking at the life of Robin Hood and a special Open Day weekend of free events for the public.
For the Theatre Royal’s actual birthday of 25 September, this special day was marked by a royal visit by HRH The Earl of Wessex Prince Edward.
Throughout his visit, he was escorted by Operations Director Kate Collins, who had the onerous task of several months of complicated planning for this hour-long visit.
During his visit Prince Edward unveiled a plaque onstage commemorating the visit, which now adorns the principal’s dressing room corridor backstage.
This selection of photographs shows Prince Edward meeting veteran Panto performers Cherry Hutton and Gillian Haywood (see related link below for interview with Gillian); meeting long-serving members of staff, including Helen Wybrew (see related link below for interview with Helen); meeting the cast of Hood and backstage crew on the Theatre Royal stage and cutting a Theatre Royal birthday cake, specially make by Dawn Butler of Dinky Doodle Designs.
