Jack & the Beanstalk - Ticket Stub, 2000

Title

Jack & the Beanstalk - Ticket Stub, 2000

Date

28 December 2000

Description

Ticket stub for Jack & the Beanstalk, December 2000 that contains secret message, which was hidden for 15 years.

What's the story?

In September 2015 the Theatre Royal officially opened its brand new lift, enabling wheelchair customers or those with mobility issues to access the dress and upper circles.
Whilst the building work for this was taking place, a ticket stub from December 2000 was revealed behind some skirting board on the Upper Circle. It was from the evening performance of Jack and the Beanstalk on 28 December 2000.
As for any show the Front of House Steward had collected the ticket from the customer, tearing it along the perforated edge and returning the large section to the audience member.
However, clearly bored whilst the show was on, our forward thinking steward decided to write down a few words and then ‘bury’ it in a crevice in the skirting board. He or she may have wanted their wise words to be discovered much later, but fifteen years later all was revealed …
“To the person who finds this. The year is 2000 – December. My wages are £12.95 per show + commission – 7%. DVDs have just come out. Tony Blair is Prime Minister. Hope the future is good. (followed by smiley face image) P.S. Do we still burn coal.”
If you were the author of this ticket stub, we’d love to hear from you.
