What's the story?
Born in 1966, Helen Wybrew was brought up in Nottingham and currently resides in Stapleford.
She was first employed at the Theatre Royal in February 1987 as maternity cover for the evening receptionist role.
Thirty-two years later she remains at the venue, however during that time she has worked in a number of departments and so has many stories and memories to recollect.
In this interview Helen talks about her current job as finance assistant and the difference between her previous role working in the marketing department.
That involves looking after staff time sheets, implementing their hours on the payroll system, organising commission payments to the Front of House staff and then administration with regards to the shows. So we make sure we have correct payment details for the tours and the productions that are coming in, deal with invoices across many of the Departments in the building, so I get those put onto the system and monitor their progress through the payment system.
I really enjoyed being the Marketing Assistant, I have to confess. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve done. They’ve all been satisfying and challenging in their own way, but the Marketing, I think, was just something else. I miss that even now. I’ve been in post as Finance for nearly three years, but I miss … the transition from words to figures was rather different. But you, sort of, have to go with the flow, so …
