Title
Open Your Eyes - Postcard, 1929
Date
4 August 1929
Description
Unused original promotional postcard for Open Your Eyes, a new musical comedy by Frederick Jackson, with artwork by Gladys Holtham.
What's the story?
With a plotline involving aristocratic thieves, Russian noblemen and missing jewels, the musical comedy Open Your Eyes had a short, but chequered history.
It opened for short regional tour in the summer of 1929, but closed after three weeks, leaving bills unpaid and the cast without any wages.
Rewrites ensued and the show returned in August 1930 at the Piccadilly Theatre in London. However, within its first week the musicians went on strike due to unpaid wages. Coupled with poor reviews the show collapsed after three weeks back into bankruptcy.
