The Ken Dodd Laughter Show - Programme, 1978
Date
7 February 1978
Description
Full programme for The Ken Dodd Laughter Show, which commenced its three week run at the Theatre Royal on 7 February 1978.
What's the story?
In 1978 Ken Dodd (1927 to 2018) was one of the most popular comedians and entertainers in the UK.
Although a proud Liverpudlian, he had a unique relationship with Nottingham as he gained his big break in September 1954, when he made his professional show-business debut at the Empire, the Theatre Royal’s sister venue and now site of the Royal Concert Hall.
Over the years he continued to make regular Nottingham appearances and was the star of Robinson Crusoe, the 1972 Theatre Royal Pantomime.
Therefore, Dodd was a natural choice to re-open the Theatre Royal with his Laughter Show in 1978 following the venue’s temporary closure and massive refurbishment.
Ken Dodd died aged 90 in March 2018. He was scheduled to perform once again in the Theatre Royal the following month.
