Title
Actors' Hardships in Nottingham - Newspaper Article, 1945
Date
12 January 1945
Description
Nottingham Journal newspaper article about visiting actors suffering "hardships" in Nottingham
What's the story?
An interesting Nottingham Journal article in the last year of the Second World War about the difficulty of visiting actors finding suitable accommodation during their stay.
Reporting from a recent meeting of British Equity, Nottingham was one of the “overcrowded towns where the difficulty of obtaining comfortable lodgings is appalling.
The article states that it has been known for actors to sleep at the Theatre Royal due to being unable to find suitable digs.
However, Theatre Royal manager Mr de Lee states that the problem is now less acute “as the departure of evacuees from the city has made accommodation available”.
